Telecoil acts as a receiver that picks up electromagnetic signals from hearing loop systems. Hearing loop systems consist of a sound source (such as a public address system), an amplifier, a loop of wire (hearing loop) and the telecoil. Using loop systems can help transmit sounds from a public sound system directly into your hearing aids or cochlear implant.<\/p>\n<h2>Do My Hearing Aids Have Telecoil?<\/h2>\n<p>While telecoils are common, not all hearing aids have them. In particular, the very small models are less likely to be enabled with telecoil because it takes up too much space within the device. If you are unsure, ask your audiologist or hearing aid specialist. If your current hearing aids do not have a telecoil, you can discuss upgrading to a model that has them.<\/p>\n<h2>Where Can I Find Hearing Loop Systems<\/h2>\n<p>Hearing loop systems are becoming more and more common. You will often find them in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Airports or other public transportation stations<\/li>\n<li>Places of worship like St. John\u2019s Episcopal Church in Columbia<\/li>\n<li>Performing arts centers<\/li>\n<li>Arenas<\/li>\n<li>Movie theaters<\/li>\n<li>Lecture halls<\/li>\n<li>Community centers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Venues that are equipped with a hearing loop system will have signage to let you know. The sign will be a white outline of an ear on a blue background with a large white line running diagonally through the ear; if there is a \u201cT\u201d in the lower right corner, that means that it will work with your hearing aid\u2019s telecoil.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re unsure, you can always contact a venue before attending an event there to see if they have hearing loop systems or offer any other kind of accommodations for people with hearing loss.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t miss out on your chance to connect during public events.
