If you’ve scheduled an upcoming hearing test, congratulations! You’re one step closer to hearing well in your favorite places, like Joe Riley Waterfront Park. You may be wondering if there’s anything you can do to prepare for this test. You don’t have to study, but we recommend doing the following:

List Your Symptoms "A

As part of your hearing test, your audiologist will ask you what situations you have the most difficulty hearing in. Rather than trying to come up with scenarios on the spot, it would be easier to prepare a list in advance. Start thinking about the answer to this question now.

Review Your Medical History

Your audiologist will also review your medical and family history with you in order to diagnose a potential cause of your hearing loss. It would be helpful if you had already thought about any conditions you have, medications you’re taking, history of surgeries, medical devices in use and allergies to medications. Talk to your relatives about your parents’ and grandparents’ medical histories as well.

Check with Insurance

We also recommend checking with your insurance to ensure your hearing test will be covered and if you have any hearing aid benefits. You can either talk to your audiologist’s office or your insurance company directly to find this out.

Ask Someone to Attend

Bringing a loved one along to attend your appointment isn’t necessary, but it can be helpful. They can help remember any important information you may forget, and you can rely on their hearing if you feel unable to hear everything your audiologist has to say.

Compile Questions

Your appointment may feel a little overwhelming with all the information thrown at you, so you might not remember to ask all the questions you have. You should compile a physical list of questions in advance so you don’t forget to ask anything. Your audiologist will leave time to review your questions before your appointment’s end.
