So much goes into figuring out what hearing aids are right for you, and we want to make sure you have all the information needed to help make that decision. One newer option to consider is rechargeable hearing aids.

As the name suggests these are hearing aids that use rechargeable batteries as opposed to standard batteries. Let’s go over some of the advantages and limitations of rechargeable hearing aids to help you decide whether they might be a good option for you.

Advantages of Rechargeable Hearing Aids

"A

Hearing aids equipped with rechargeable batteries can last for up to 30 hours between charges, or 18 hours with heavy usage. This can give you a lot of comfort and freedom to go about your day with the knowledge your hearing aid will last.

Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries have a lifespan of roughly five years and silver zinc rechargeable batteries typically last one year. This is significantly longer than standard disposable batteries, which may last anywhere from three to 22 days.

If you’re traveling, especially if you’re taking a longer trip across the country or going sightseeing in Europe, it can be nice to not have to worry about packing extra batteries or trying to find one if your current battery dies while out and about.

Hearing aids that are not rechargeable can go through 100 batteries in a single year. This makes rechargeable hearing aids not only more convenient in terms of not needing to carry around extra batteries, but also contributes less waste to the environment.

Limitations of Rechargeable Hearing Aids

While rechargeable hearing aids allow you to move about your day without needing to carry extra batteries around, they do come with a charging station and cord.

Because of how long the rechargeable batteries typically last, you don’t have to carry them around with you everywhere you go. However, if you forget them on a longer trip, or if they get damaged you could be without your hearing aid until the parts are repaired or replaced.

Another possible limitation is that rechargeable hearing aids come in fewer style options. However, as manufacturers continue to add new models this is likely to improve and more styles will become available.

Making a Decision

At the end of the day, the best hearing aid for you is the one that best matches your lifestyle and feels the most comfortable.
